From Red Fox Co-Founder & President Aleco Chigounis:
Naturally processed coffees come in many forms: from the ripe fruit and deep sweetness-driven process-forward profiles to the more acidity-driven, terroir-perceptible options. When I think about the latter, I think about my absolute favorite naturals of all time, Yemeni Mocha. Coffees that have all of the sparkle and brightness that washed coffee fans demand with plenty of profound fruity character that makes a coffee interesting to the natural-leaning crowd.
Our Arbegona Bochessa Natural lot evokes these top Yemeni lots. The lemon-lime acidity that screams at you from first sip is undeniably Sidamo; undeniably Northern Sidamo at that. Acidity that is distinctly found in the best 2000+ meter coffees from Arbegona & Bensa. The fruit character attached to it is complex; darker fruits like fig and date mesh with deeper red fruits like raspberry and maraschino cherry.
We don’t come across naturals like Bochessa often at Red Fox. Quantities were extremely limited this year and are mostly gone, but we want to spotlight this nonetheless. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this coffee next year.
