Guji Uraga Forest Coffees Stay Winning

In Southern Ethiopia’s Guji Uraga region lies a dense, mountainous forest containing some of Ethiopia’s most extreme altitudes. Within this immense forest lies an array of distinct subregions, where we source some of the most extraordinary and sought-after coffees we see anywhere in the world. Uraga coffees are profoundly nuanced with a piquant florality and a bright, complex acidity like lime and bergamot backed by stone fruit sweetness like ripe peach. When we taste Guji coffees, we look for that taste that we describe as almost scallion-like when fresh, which ripens into that unparalleled florality on arrival.

Both lots we’re bringing in this year are washed, exemplifiying the abundant floral complexity of Guji Uraga.

Yabitu Koba: with an initial team score of 89 that historically opens up over the course of the season, the notes on this lot include distinct florality like honeysuckle and orange blossom, bright nectrous sweetness like yellow peach and white honey, and a heavier sweetness like blackcurrant and brown sugar.

Gogogu: with an initial team score of 89 that historically opens up over the course of the season, this lot offers notes of tropical citrus, redcurrant, red honey, yellow plum, and white grape.
